Website Accessibility Enhancement

Ally Alternative, a website accessibility enhancement for Aurora, has been enabled for many university websites.

Aurora, the University’s WordPress service, provides Blackboard Ally to automatically check content against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standards.  Ally Alternative works in concert with this to create alternative formats for material provided on a website.  These include electronic braille, audio, and modified text versions.  ITS has enabled the translation option so that the content can be delivered in one of 48 different languages.  Website visitors can use this feature by clicking on the square Ally icon displayed on the lower left of the web page and then selecting the desired format.  Ally Alternative,  consistent with the University Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Accessibility Policy, helps to ensure that the broadest practical audience can easily use our digital content.  We encourage webmasters to view all the guidelines, outlined at accessibility.its.uconn.edu, and consult with the ITS Accessibility Coordinator for additional guidance.
