Pilot of Kaltura

A pilot version of Kaltura is available to UConn instructors and students.

Kaltura is a cloud-based media capture and storage application that integrates into the UConn learning management system, HuskyCT.  Some of Kaltura’s functionality overlaps with Mediasite, the current video platform offered to instructors; both enable instructors to incorporate video into their courses.  We are exploring this alternative to Mediasite because it has some additional features that instructors have requested, including in-line quizzing and the ability to share videos among multiple courses and store of images and audio files in addition to videos.  As a cloud-based service, Kaltura also provides our instructors and students with storage space that does not impact course quotas.  More information about Kaltura and tutorials are available at http://ait.uconn.edu/kaltura/.

ITS is offering this pilot version of Kaltura throughout the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters while we evaluate its fit for our university community.  As a potential alternative to our existing Mediasite service offering, we want to carefully assess its ability to meet the needs of the community.  We welcome feedback from you and your constituents during this phase, which you can share via this survey or by emailing kaltura@uconn.edu.
