Device information and location services

ITS is making two services available to our IT Community that can be used to provide information about devices connected to the UConn network.

ITS often requires location and ownership information for devices on the UConn network, most commonly in response to IT security-related incidents.  We have developed two internal services to meet this need.  The Device Information service is used to obtain the machine address, IP address, hostname, and NetID for devices.  This information can be used to identify ownership.  The Jack Trace service provides the building, room, and jack number for wired devices.  It can be run independently, or as part of a Device Information search, to determine location.  We believe that these services may be generally useful to staff outside of ITS and are extending their availability to other full-time UConn IT professionals. Contact the Information Security Office at security@uconn.edu for additional information and to be provisioned access.
