New configuration on high-tech classroom computers

ITS has developed a new configuration for our high-tech classroom computers.

ITS has historically managed computers in classrooms generally scheduled by the registrar.  On these computers, we maintained a kiosk-style configuration that permitted anyone to access the system and to utilize generically available resources.  This approach minimized risk, but it also prevented direct access to personal resources, and this ultimately limited the creative incorporation of technology into the curriculum.  Based on customer feedback, ITS developed a new computer image that will allow instructors to login with their NetID and password and to securely access their P: and Q: drives as well as key virtual and desktop applications.  ITS will provide guest credentials to instructors that do not currently have a NetID.  We will be deploying this new image on high-tech classroom computers at the Storrs campus starting August 3rd and continuing throughout the month.  To make the transition as smooth as practical, we will communicate with instructors in the coming weeks about these changes and provide them with relevant support material on how best to utilize these new capabilities.
